20 Hz - 384,400 km centres on the charred remains of the Scottish Dark Sky Observatory. The site, which was allegedly burned down by local youths in 2021, acts as a symbol of the conflict between the immediate, tangible environment and technological abstraction.
The work takes its name from the lowest audio frequency that the human ear can detect and the distance from Earth to the Moon. Combining filmed and found footage, text and audio, it explores the micro boundaries of the human senses and the macro extremities of the charted cosmos. Sounds processed from planets and the central nervous system merge with a cinematic interpretation of a Buddhist proverb, a negative TripAdvisor review and images of burning stunt performers.
Inward and outward perceptual margins are formed through scientific and sensorial limitations and seemingly self-sabotaging acts.
